Key System Defaults
The Key System interface is an add-on to Chorum allowing the automated production of personalized electronic door keys for your guests, generated at the time of check-in (and during the guest's stay if duplicates or replacements are needed, at your property's discretion). Among the benefits of electronic security, the keys are only valid for the duration of the guest's booking - once the guest departs (checks out of Chorum), the key becomes invalid and no longer works with the door lock until reconfigured for the next guest.
If you are not looking to modify interface defaults, but instead looking to set up and (or) configure the key maker devices for communication with Chorum, please instead see Key Encoder Setup.
To enable the Key System, you must have purchased an applicable interface for use with Chorum. If you have not already done so, please reach out to the Chorum Support Center to open a sales inquiry. Most of these settings are adjusted at the time of install, but can be adjusted as needed after install at your property's discretion.
Begin by opening the GM Functions module, then expand the Property Settings folder. From here, expand the Interfaces folder and open the Electronic Keys menu.
The settings presented at the top of the menu determine the key system's basic behaviors. See the table below for an explanation of each option.
Option |
Description |
---|---|
Key Lock Interface Active |
While checked, the key system is enabled. Leave this checked. |
Prompt at Check In |
When checked, the Create Guest Room Key(s) option presented on theGuest Check-In form is automatically checked. If your property typically generates a key for all guests at check-in, leave this enabled. |
Default Key Expiry |
Set the time of a day a guest's key will cease working on their departure date. For best results, we recommend setting this no later than one hour prior to the earliest time your property allows new guests to check in. |
Copy Keys |
If supported, allows the key encoder to generate duplicates of an existing key. |
Reset Encoder |
Adds the "Reset Encoder" action to the key encoder dialogue, allowing hardware reset from the interface if needed (recommended). |
Single-Use Key |
If supported, allows the key encoder to generate keys that expire immediately after their first use. |
Read Keys |
If supported, allows the key encoder to "read" an inserted key card. |
Change Activate Key Date / Time |
Allows users to manually edit a given key's "Activate Key Date / Time" settings. |
Eject Key |
Enables the key encoder to "eject" the key card whether other actions have been taken or not. |
When enabled, note that guest bookings will now display the additional Create Key(s) button to access the key encoder dialogue when needed for the guest.
